Thank you for compiling this great collection and sharing it with us!
I'm sure you spent more time at it than I did writing the GEMUS script.
Downloaded it from UG and it looks fantastic.

Paul, KC, thanks for your time on this.

Demos deserve their own GB as they exemplify the spirit in which the C64 inhabited many of our lives: it was a platform for experimentation and discovery. I have never coded a demo, and I only dabble in machine code, but I love to read about the techniques and watch the results. You guys have made that much easier to do. Thankyou. I have bookmarked it on UG and will download it this weekend.

Thank Sjakie43 and .Mad for their work on compiling the excellent database, me and KC had nothing to do with that. We just made Hoxs64's C64 script work with individual files which is so much easier...

I'd also recommend Hardnman's excellent Atari 800 gamebase, although it's not demo related both systems were wonderful platforms for tinkering about with and shared some of the great games for 8bits..

I've had a great time looking at a lot of the demo's, I wasn't so into the demo's on the Atari and the C64 in the day, I was more of a gamer / coder freak / hacker. I got into demo's more when the Amiga came around and there are some crackers on that platform but after looking at the C64 and Atari demo's it's amazing how much they got out of those tiny CPU's and limited graphics ability.

Plasma's, sine scrollers, mandelbrots etc etc, pretty amazing and some in real time too...

I even saw a pretty stunning Doom demo, ok no monsters but the idea of a fully 3d textured Doom game on a C64 and Atari 8bit...

Who would have thought...

Key=value pairs are stored in the Games table. You can find them in the field Gemus.
But it isn't needed to do this, because almost all (if not all) demos will work with the new Gemus script without any further modification.

I actually started to write a post about the location of the gemus field after getting a different mdb reader but realised as I was writing it the whole thing was pointless because the values in the hoxsnum would be different than the previous values they had used..

Was half asleep at the time :)

From UG torrent of Demobase64:

Games not found: 3/7226
d\dekadence-10_years_arsé_.zip 6190 10 Years Arse
a\afrika-eslöv.zip 5749 Eslöv
b\beastie_boys-gülle_und_jauche.zip 5481 Gülle Und Jauche

Pictures not found: 2/7225
a\afrika-eslöv001.png 5749 Eslöv
b\beastie_boys-gülle_und_jauche001.png 5481 Gülle Und Jauche

It would be nice to rename these files in that torrent, so the base could see them.

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question. I noticed on the first page that there is some talk about some changes to the script. I just grabbed the demobase from the Megaupload link above. Will I need to make any changes to any of the files before running, or is it ok as is?

Also, I noticed in the Gemus settings for each emulator, the supported native file types don't always match the list of file types mentioned under "PLEASE SET YOUR EMULATOR PROPERTIES AS FOLLOWS:".

Sometimes there are file types already in the field that aren't in the list below, and vice-versa. Is it okay to just make sure that everything that is in the list is typed in the field, or do I need to remove the types in the field that aren't in the list also?

The Demobase will run fine as it is.

the updated Hoxs64 script by KC,
is on the previous page if you want it.

i can't remember if it's in the Megaupload link or not.

just copy the script code to a new text document file.
rename it "Hoxs64.txt" and put it in the Script DIR.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, but no matter what demo I click on, I get this:

Invalid File referenced in script function
Do you want to continue running the game anyway?

Any idea what could be causing this?

What emulator are you using when this happens?
