GameBase Acorn Atom

Sat Jun 12, 2010 8:32 pm

Hi GameBase Fans,
i've created a GB for the Acorn Atom :
Image Image

Downloads :
Undergound Gamer :
GB Acorn Atom v1.01
Update : v1.00 to 1.01

mirror :
Megaupload :
GB Acorn Atom v1.01

P.S.
please help seeding on UG. If you can't do it get it from the mirror

NOTE :
You need the latest beta of the "Main-GameBase" V1.3,
which can be downloaded here (full version) or here (update from older Gamebase version).

here are some GB-Atom notes :

The Emulator :
---------------------
The Emulator Acorn Atom v1.33 by Wouter Ras could also work without DosBox.
But for me, it only works with DosBox. So the GEMUS Script runs the Games in DB.

The GEMUS-Script :
------------------------------
The Script was written by K.C.
Thank You again ;-)

You can change many settings of DosBox by using the k=v pair in Gamebase.

Look at the GEMUS Script for more Infos.

Game Colors :
----------------------
The default colorsettings of the Acorn-Emulator is black & green.
But it is possible to set the colors the way you want ! (look at the Atom-Emulator-Readme)
You can do this in GameBase also by using the k=v pair.
Look i.e. at the GEMUS "key=value" pairs from the game "Snapper".

You can play 108 Games in my "modified" colorsettings (thats default, when klick on "play game"),
or you can play them in the default colorsetting (Extras - play game [default color] )

Also, look at the GEMUS Script for more Infos.

Xpadder & JoyToKey :
--------------------------------
Normaly, the AcornAtom don't support a Gamepad/Joystick.
So, i've decided to use Xpadder v5.3 (Freeware) to play about 70 Games with a Gamepad.
Also 5 Games (2Player-Simultaneous) use the application "JoyToKey".

Video - Clips :
---------------------
I've made some videos, so you can watch the games...(i.e. you can see the gamespeed, that i use on my PC)
Up to now, there are about 40 Games that has "short video-clips". (most 10-20 seconds, stored on the harddisk)
And 6 Games do also have "long video-clips" (2 - 10 minutes, link to You Tube)

I will add more clips (Harddisk and You Tube) in a later update.

Thanks Jimbo for this Great Feature in GameBase ;-)

P.S.
-------
If you are an owner of an Acorn Atom, maybe you can help to add more Games to this GameBase.
Also I need more Tape/Coverscans for this GB.
Maybe you can also watch my video-clips, and tell me , if the "Gamespeed" in the clips is nearly o.k. ;-)

And now, have Fun :D

Hey,

Great job!

Also: it's nice to see some of the newer GameBase/GEMUS features being used!

a suggestion...

Sat Jun 12, 2010 9:55 pm

One possible improvement I can suggest to the script/running games: -

Perhaps it would be more convenient if a global kvset was created to set some k=v pairs, such as: -

Code: Select all

;time to wait (in seconds) for the emulator to start
waitstart=6

;typing speed in the emulator (in milliseconds)
typingspeed=50

;use joystick? (1=yes, 0=no)
;if no, use cursor keys and left-alt to fire
joystick=1
Then simply pressing F2 and modifying these values is a breeze, and doesn't need the user to delve into the script.

Just a suggestion :) Great script btw!

Hi
K.C. has allready put this "feature" in the Script
Yep I'm aware of this. What I meant was to have the global kvset already existing (i.e. showing up when you press F2 on any game) with the default values. It could also show helpful comments or instructions like what keys you can use for joystick if you don't actually have a joystick.

This way you don't have to check the script to determine which kvpairs you need to edit, you just press F2 and follow instructions/change values.

Excellent work vicman, this was always going to a difficult gamebase for someone to do. You have done an absolutely fantastic job.

Thank you, sut.
This GameBase would not be what it is, without K.C.'s Script.
I think, we were a good Team 8)

PS i had a look at the Enterprise stuff, i cant figure out how to load the games into any enterprise emulator, did you manage it?

Acorn Atom Speed

Tue Sep 21, 2010 4:01 pm

Hi guys,

I found out that if you set the global kv-pairs :)

cycles=13500
typingspeed=100

matches the speed of an original Atom at 1 MHz.

Greetings
KC
