Strange issue with a TAP

Sat Jan 26, 2008 8:19 pm

So I'm working on GB20 and we're getting pretty far along now hooray...

Anyhow I've got a bizarre problem with one TAP I'm trying to add into an entry. All other TAPs work fine, they get booted up, attached and start loading. This one, Vice seems to think is a D64 and tries to boot it ,8,1 instead.

I have no idea why, I made the TAP and if you manually attach it in Vice, it will load perfectly okay. It just screws up when trying to load it through the GB frontend. Any thoughts?

that seems bizarre :?
maybe the header of the tape has been slightly corrupted in some way.

i would try and re-dump the tape at a new volume.

Good Luck!

P.S. the disks are still waiting to be sent.

I don't think I can, I think I made the TAPs from a set of tapes borrowed from someone (and then returned). As said it works fine otherwise, so this issue never crossed my mind. Maybe I'll ask about if anyone else has a TAP of it...

I don't have a setup to test it out but - just a wild guess - could it be something with the filename of the TAP file?
If I zip an image with a comma in the filename, most of the time the frontend behaves strange, because the comma in the filename is interpreted as a delimiter between 2 options.
So you can try to unzip the TAP file (in case it is zipped), rename it to something without spaces and other symbols and zip it again to a file with only alphanumeric characters.
Once again, just a wild guess...

/Edit: Forgot to mention - can't wait for the release of GB20!

Nah, filename is just letters (A-Z), nothing else. I've found someone with a TAP of it, asked them to pass it on. Will see what happens with their version.

EDIT: Got another TAP of the game, but it's doing the same thing. I'm really scratching my head now...

Clutching at straws!

i have had strange problem using a plus4 disk image.
getting an error saying the file was already in use.
the file in question was "GAME.D64" and i already had a filename called "GAME.PRG"
The error only started after installing the newer GameBase v1.2.
i had to delete the entry and edit the filename to run in Access
and then use the Scan and Fix Errors option in the toolbox to bypass the problem.
So maybe you could try installing the older GameBase.

If the TAP is not a fancy Turbo-Loader? you could try and re-save it using VICE, as you managed to load it manually.

Maybe you have a "DISK OPTION" ticked in the game entry.
True drive emulation. or size = 1 disk.

I know some original tapes only load with ,1,1
not ,1 or Shift+Run/Stop.
or Visa-Versa.
Tinker with the options.

if all else fails rename the TAP to D64 and see what happens?
you never know! :?

Must have been the TAP header doing something, cleaned it with FinalTAP and it works okay now. Still strange though...
