Creating *mdb from TOSEC-Dat ?

Fri Jul 23, 2010 3:54 pm

Hi all,

is it possible to create a *.mdb file from a TOSEC-Datfile ?
I mean only the filenames.

i.e. The Exelvision EXL 100 :

Now, i want to copy all *.dat's into a blank *.mdb
(again, only the "Gamenames".....)

I think .mad. has allready made a "pur" *.mdb for a system by using a datfile, right ?

Can you explain me , how to make it ? :)

btw.
i saw, that i can use gamebase "Toolbox" for romcenter 2.0 datfiles....
but i can't find any rc 2.0 datfiles....
(and i want to use the newest TOSEC-Dats for each system....)

got it here :

i can do this, no problem.

it's possible to make a mdb with just a text file of the game names.
but a dat is quicker and easier.

looking at the TOSEC dats (in your download link)
they are CLRMAMEPRO format.
http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/index.htm

so you just need to covert them to
ROMCENTER v2.50
http://www.romcenter.com/

using DatUtil 2.46 from a DOS command window.
http://www.logiqx.com/Tools/

this util can also create a DAT from files on your hardrive.

all you need to do is edit the header of the romcenter dat after creating it.
to the correct romcenter DAT version ID GameBase likes.
2.00

it seems to work 8)

but how did you merge the tosec dats ? (after converting with datutil)

by converting the tosec.dat's to romcenter.dat's and then copy & paste them with an editor into one datfile ?

Or is it possible with toolbox to read in more than one datfile when creating a new gamebase ?
(think not...?!)

you know what to do.

just use a text editor (notepad)
to merge everything in the [games] section of the dat.
