Merging databases

Tue Jan 18, 2005 11:48 am

I downloaded an early version of Gamebase (v1.3 I think it was, and then the numbering went back to 0.95 for some reason....).

Anyway, I spent a lot of time setting up the filenames and screenshots for the games I have on my computer in this database. Of course, all that effort came to nothing when the newer versions were released as they obviously did not have the same directory structure that I set up.

I like to have an up to date version of the database and the screenshots so that I can see what a great machine the C64 was (and consider what other games I may like to play). But I also like to be able to play my games using Gamebase.

So at the moment I run 2 database, one with the filenames set up for my games and the other the complete Gamebase64 database.

What I would like to do is somehow merge the databases so that the entries in my database are used when I have one, otherwise use the entries in the Gamebase64 database.

Does anyone know if it is possible to do this? Do I need to use Access to create a single database out of the two? If it comes to that, can I use Access to modify the entries in the database?
Hey - where did all the weird people go?

Merging databases

This exact subject is discussed on these forums at;
Subject: Merging Databases? :)
http://www.gb64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=515

The above link provides an update and additional information to another article;
Subject: importing publishers lists between dbs

But be warned, as stated at the end of the 'Merging Databases?' thread, you may find that your Gamebase crashes because you missed out one or two nominal field entries.
Hence, none of this is for the lighthearted but if the crashing problem should happen, the nominal entries which could fix your problem are listed at;
