Games from pre-C64 release?

Thu Oct 09, 2003 6:51 am

How is it possible that there are games for the C64 that date from 197x-1981? Are these games written in a code meant for another Commodore computer and the C64 does understand them as well?

Well obviously they weren't meant for the C64 originally, if you look at the games you will notice that they are heavily text based (with the CBM graphic chars used extensively). Some of the games work with a sort of PET emulation, others will have had no changes made and a few may have had a few lines of code changed to make them compatible. So yes they where originally on other commodore computers but they work fine on the C64 so they've been included as C64 games

There are also text games from books and magazines before 1982 that work with Microsoft BASIC, which was 100% compatible with CBM BASIC back then. Creative Computing is a good example.
