Help with the larger downloads

Mon Sep 08, 2003 1:31 pm

So far I've managed to grab the front-end but it's seriously hard work trying to gather the other files.

(GB64 v01 Screenshots 83,714 KB)
Only 1 server supplying the pack and i'm currently downloading at 0.7k a sec - no, I'm not on dial-up.

(GB64 v01 Extras 472,075 KB)
Uses the same server as above so I dread to think how long this will take.

(Games)I do have quite a large collection of games already (2000 or so) but entering them by hand seems silly when the database has been set up for the files on nostalgia.pl.
Downloading them 1 at a time is equally as bad though.

(HVSC Sids)
I currently have no access to this page :(

So a question or 2...
Will anyone be willing to provide a burning service if all costs are covered for the postage/discs?
Will we be seeing a bulk upload to usenet anytime soon?

Thanks,
frak!

AFAIK HVSC it is down because it depends from c64.org (that doesn't work due to a server crash).

Downloading about 15/16.000 files individually by hand is quite impossible. I am also awaiting for d/l tips.

Someone should upload the collection to usenet (alt.binaries.emulation.misc), this way it'll be fairly easy for most people to download the whole thing, and it'll free up nostalgia.pl...

For the the High Voltage Sid Collection (HVSC), you can get it here: http://www.tld-crew.de/siddown.html

Thanks!! grabbing the collection right now :D

Completely agree with the 'alt.binaries.emulation.misc' thing. It's by far the fastest and easiest way for most people to grab the collection.

Thanks a lot for that link, Fractalus!

I'd be all for the "alt.binaries.emulation.misc thing", but I would have no idea how to go about that. Maybe someone can upload/share it there and post instructions how to get there.

I'm sure it'll pop up on the file sharing networks as well though... sooner or later anyway.

Hehe.. 5 hours later and i've 'almost' bagged the screenshots ;)
Anyone else found some of the downloads this slow?
*listens to another 100 or so SID toons while waiting* :)

Screenshot Downloads

Seems the Nostalgia.pl site is getting one hell of a lot of traffic at the moment!

All we can say is to be patient - don't hammer the FTPs or they'll be down quicker than you can blink! :?

Don't really have much choice with the art pack tho.. that's just it, it's a single file. Not even attempting to grab a whole folder full of games - I'll wait for some kind soul to share via the usual means

There are also 8 seperate screenshot packs so dial-up users can get them easier. Its still a total of nearly 90mb, but in 10-12mb chunks.

http://www.nostalgia.pl/download/commod ... -pack6.zip
http://www.nostalgia.pl/download/commod ... -pack7.zip

At the moment the nostalgia.pl site is under heavy traffic, so if you get no response, don't worry and try again later. The collection will not be going away!

Hope this helps.

It would be nice if the ISO was to be spread via edonkey2k in some official way like get it out to some initial spreaders and then post edk2 url on gamebase frontpage.

Sorry I meant that a edk2-link could be provided to a iso that somehow got spread to some edonky/emule users. No official distrubution, just a link to some place where a iso might be obainable.
