Hi all - just seen the new release on lemon64, and looked at my old GB version (which obviously won't work in Win11).
It is GB v05, is there a way to upgrade/migrate to the latest version? I'd like to keep my favs and settings etc?

Upgrade path?

Re: Upgrade path?
sorry, no.
only the full complete gamebase package is available.
while there are gigabytes of duplicate files between releases (covers, adverts, docs).
update packs have never been a thing.
it would be a lot of work for someone to maintain.
just easier to archive and upload everything.
there is no import settings option between releases either.
you can save your favourites to a text file from the gamebase menu.
Then you can add them again to v19 manually.
*just hope you don't have too many favourites.
Be warned.
you will need to do the same work again, with the next v20 release.

Since I can't open the old GBv05 in win11, anyway to get the favourites extracted?

The only reason (i can think of) why that wouldn't work in win11, is if you are still using an older version of the GameBase frontend v1.0 or v1.2.
have you got v1.3 (Full)?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gameba ... e/download
install it at C:\GameBase\
not in \windows\program files...
and make the folder safe in windows defender/ security options.
then when you run gb_v05 in GB v1.3 it will update the database file to the v1.3 format.
and it should then work.
*you will need to update the emulators and scripts, which i can help you with.
Re: Upgrade path?
The v05 part is only a database file (MDB).

Thanks
I downloade the GB1.3 front end and installed it as suggested and I can access the DB now.
I'll export the favs and import them into GBv19.
How do you handle new releases of games, demos etc? are they incorporated on each release, or you have a cut off - say 2000 after which you won't add new games?
Do you have placeholders for games that are still for sale, for example?

It has nothing to do with me.
Yes there is a cut off.
He might have a number of database entries as a goal (30,100), or special date in mind (midsummer, christmas).
then no more entries are added until he releases that version.
even though the master version is still being updated.
there are no special placeholders for commercially available games.
You can use the gamebase filters to search for a release date on or above 2023, to limit the number of database entries to search through.
