Thought I would release this Gamebase I have been sitting on, This will not be of interest to everybody, nor gamers. Think of this as more of a curio.

WHY INCOMPLETE ?
The Magnavox Odyssey was the very first home console, now one of the reasons I stated this Gamebase is more of a curio is because most of the games required either overlays and/or accessories. The current state of emulation for the system doesn't incorporate these at the moment. I have emailed one of the Emulators authors and he currently has no plans to update the emulator.

SO WHATS INCLUDED ?
All the games are included. along with current emulation screenshots and a decent amount of extras, unfortunately alot of the games are not playable due to the lack of overlay & accessory emulation.

SO WHAT CAN YOU PLAY ?
Three games are currently playable they are Table Tennis (No overlays or accessories were required), Tennis - the only game where the overlay is emulated and no accessories are required to play & finally Volleyball - the overlay is not emulated but is still playable.
Note:The games are 2 Player only.
You can also play the Rifle games (Dogfight, Prehistoric Safari, Shoot Out & Shooting Gallery) but without the overlays they don't really offer much

WHAT ABOUT THE EXTRAS ?
The extras include scans of the overlays and accessories taken from the excellent Odyssey museum http://www.magnavox-odyssey.com/. This will give you the general idea how the games worked.

WILL THERE BE A VERSION 2.0 ?
Not unless the emulation status improves so more games are playable.

WHY SHOULD I DOWNLOAD ?
As before this won't interest many people, but like with my Channel F Gamebase, this allows people information on the older more obscure systems that once coloured the videogame landscape.

Slight update i've been sitting on for a while, now added overlay image to screenshots folder. Also added the excellent Chronogamer blogs for each game (you really must read it).

Unfortunately the emulation level is still along way off what it needs to be, I have emailed the author of the emulator/simulator but he is not currently working or planning to work on it in the near future.

Here's the link:

the emulator under win 7 doesn't work!
I can't let it work in windowed mode.
Is there anyone that know how to solve the problem?

.mad could you help me please :
To solve the problem i used dosbox
the script that i made is :
Run_Emulator_Send_Keys([1]{mount c c:\gamebase\}{Enter}{c:}{Enter}{cd odyssey}{Enter}{cd odyemu}{Enter}{odyemu }%gamefile%{enter} [1]||30)
but when I run the script it doesn't give me the point of the %gamefile%
OX when i finish the script I reupload gamebase odyssey

instead of all that, try using %gamepathfile%

but without the emu files and your setup.
we can't test it.

"The Odyssey is so basic that its electronic system requires the use of numerous accessories to play most of the games: carton cards, plastic chips, dice, overlays, etc."

Yeah - not much point in emulating the original Odyssey unless you emulate all the other bits to interact.

Not an update but I have stumbled across something of a much more complete emulator for the DS

http://dsgamemaker.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 2&start=15

Worth a look for people interested in the Odyssey as it is in a far more advanced state than Odyemu currently is.

I was curious about it too while I was collecting Gamebases over the last month, but saw that the last request for a reupload did not generate one. No big deal, but I would also grab it for preservation if it was made available again.

I also collect databases, as links to them eventually die

Reupload as requested by Hidron, I will at some point try and get this to run through Dosbox for people with Vista and Windows 7.

Also if there is a budding artist who understands how to create an image in this format
Additional artwork is obviously needed to improve the emulator. If you want to contribute, your only rules to respect are the following: your artwork must look exactly like the original Odyssey stuff, and you should supply your artwork in large definition so that we can eventually resize it. We are aware that the actual 320x200 resolution is insufficient, but the sections requiring artwork will use higher resolutions.

What we need:

Game overlays must be added. Basically, this consists in scanning them, refining them and make them available for the emulator. Don't forget that the emulator comes with the BMPTORLE.EXE utility, so you can try your own bitmaps.
http://www.pong-story.com/odyemu.htm

The following games would become playable with just the overlays:

Basketball
Dogfight
Handball
Hockey
Prehistoric Safari
Shooting Gallery
Shootout
Ski
Submarine
Volleyball

The rest of the games would require, the accessories emulating but as you can see just getting the overlays done would advance the current state of emulation brilliantly.

Updated to work via dosbox :-

http://www.datafilehost.com/download-a95148b1.html

now if someone would be so kind as to get hold of the overlays and get them working

Apparently this susurreous fella on here http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showt ... e%29/page3 has all the re-touched hi-res scans to all the games for hyperspin.
